The AG Basics Program

The Fred J. Carnage Middle School AG Basics program is based on research showing that academically gifted students have exceptional potential which must recognized, nurtured, challenged, and expanded. The philosophy of the AG Basics program is implemented through curriculum and instructional strategies that provide differentiated services to match students' gifted characteristics.

AG Services

  • Fred J. Carnage Middle School has one AG team at each grade level.

  • Academically Gifted students receive differentiated educational services in the four core areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

  • A full-time AG resource teacher coordinates the program at Fred J. Carnage Middle School, providing support and assistance to both AG teachers and their students.

GT Magnet Programs

The curriculum and program organization of the Gifted and Talented Magnet program is built on students' needs, strengths, gifts, talents, and interests.  Elective courses offer opportunities to explore new areas of interest or to study a particular area in depth.  Each day students attend four core curriculum classes and three elective classes. To apply for a magnet school, visit the Magnet Resource Center or apply online at http://www.wcpss.net/magnet/index.html.

Mathematics, Science & Technology

The Cornerstones Magnet Grant has enabled Carnage to move forward with a new and fundamental focus as a GT Magnet school with emphasis on mathematics, science, and technology.

  • The Cornerstones Magnet Grant has provided Carnage with technology, enabling us to have multiple networked computers in each classroom, a wireless computer lab, and several fully equipped computer laboratory classrooms.

  • The science focus is centered on a new Ecosystem Learning Center.  This center is comprised of a greenhouse with various habitats and gardens to facilitate student learning across the curriculum.

  • New electives in mathematics and science strengthen the students' knowledge and interests in these areas.

  • Technology development permeates all subject areas and enhances students' contributions to the 21st century.
