Carnage Clubs & Organizations At a Glance
National Junior Beta Club
The National Junior Beta Club honors and recognizes students
for their academic achievement, character, and leadership qualities. Membership is based
on a 3.5 grade point average at the end of the first quarter, teacher recommendation, and
maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average. The Beta Club meets monthly and participates
in service projects at school and the community, as well as social activities.
Foreign Language Clubs
After-school language clubs provide enrichment in both language
and culture. Special activities of the Spanish Club include cooking Spanish food for the
winter fiesta and buying books in Spanish for children. The French Club enjoys a film festival,
supports community projects, and enriches the French experience with native French
speakers.
Student Council
The Carnage MS Student Council is a member of the NC Association of
Student Councils and provides a leadership intensive program for all its members. Students
have the opportunity to attend state, district, and school leadership workshops to
learn valuable life skills, such as goal setting, communication, organization, and decisionmaking.
The goal of the Carnage Middle School student council is to promote school spirit
and service to the community.
The offices of president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer are elected
each spring by ballot while a faculty advisor appoints the offices of sergeant-of-arms and
historian. Two student representatives are chosen from each homeroom in the fall. Student
council meets monthly to plan service projects such as food drives, adopt-a-family,
and contributions to various charities. The organization also sponsors events, including
dances, spirit week contest, candy grams, and teacher appreciation activities.
Battle of the books
The purpose of the Battle of the Books program is to encourage reading by all students at the middle school level. Students, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature. The game format creates interest and excitement in reading. Through the fun and excitement of the competition, students improve reading skills, mature in their choices of reading materials, and acquire a broader knowledge base.
