What is a Business Alliance?

At least six to twelve businesses, along with the school administration, make up a business alliance. These alliances provide resources (in the form of ideas and expertise, not money) to their schools through work-based activities, opportunites to network, and school-based activites. These activities are channeled through the school principal to ensure that they support the school's instructional program. This way, businesses become involved in the day-to-day life of a school as opposed to a project-by-project basis. In time, a continued, supporting relationship with school faculty and administration is forged.

Membership is voluntary and renewable anually. Currently, over 125 businesses are actively involved in the system. All Wake County High Schools have active business alliances. In addition, alliances have formed at most of the middle schools.

There is tremendous potential for you, as a business person, to impact the lives of your children. Many companies usually join an alliance near their location to minimize travel time. However, you can collaborate with any school you wish.
